A Few of My Favorite Things

Can you say...

Bad...Dog...Sage!  Aurgh!  I swear this dog is doing some serious regressing.  The last month she has started getting into the garbage again, mainly the bathroom wastebasket dragging dirty tissues all over the place.  Today I am "trying" to do some serious housework and decided to wash the cover to her bed.  I tossed the inside out on the deck so that I could vaccuum.  But I forgot I also tossed Sage outside, again so that I could vaccuum, and this is what happened!!

I see sewing in my future.  I can say...CRAP!

I called our local health department yesterday to see if they had H1N1 vaccine in and was told they did and hardly anyone waiting.  I have asthma so this gets me on the priority list.  Instead of going in right then and there I decided to go in this AM and...they were out!  That's what I get for not calling again before going in!  Double crap.  I got all cleaned up too, did my hair, put on make-up, even wore my good bra...ugh.  They are supposed to be getting more in on Monday and I will definitely be calling first.

I have to finally share Riley's Halloween pictures.  I knew she was going to be the Little Mermaid and Shelly made her costume.  But I guess I wasn't prepared to see the pics!!  One minute I was busting a gut laughing and the next saying "oh my goodness!"  Shelly said Riley couldn't take her eyes off herself!!  LOL!

Anniversary Card

Can you tell by looking at the card who's anniversary it is?  It's mine and Larry's and I made this card for him.

Our 29th anniversary is the 8th, this Sunday.  Since we will be in Portland all day Saturday we will probably celebrate with a nice dinner out.

I made this card for a friend's birthday that is this week.  I used Stampin Up's Razzleberry Lemonade DSP again.  I love this paper and need to buy another package of it. The embossing folder is non SU and you can email me if you want to know who it's by.  There is more product info on the other blog.

 
I am home alone for a few days.  I forgot Larry was traveling for work this week.  I can't keep track of all his work travel anymore.  He has become very self sufficient when it comes to packing for trips!  Good thing.  So Sage is stuck with me for a few days.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Yes, it's Halloween.  No Trick or Treaters in our neighborhood.  I miss the kids coming to the door!

I haven't blogged in over a week.  Not sure why it gets away from me now and then.  Larry and I went to Idaho last weekend to get my mother's firewood in and to tackle a few other odds and ends.  First thing though we, or I should say Larry, got sidetracked.  The rancher that leases my mom's place needed help Saturday morning with his cows. They were all getting shots and pregnancy checks.  Two vets came up from Lewiston to help with that part of it.  Larry's job was to help move the cows up to the squeeze chute.  There was 80something head that had to be done.  I think they also got ear tags once they had their shots.  All but 3 cows were in the family way!  Those 3 would rather have a career than raise babies.  That's what I'm thinking anyway.

 

That all took until noon.  Next we ran downtown to the feed store and bought 6, 100lb. bales of alfalfa for Billy.  It's much easier for him to eat that rather than hay.  Remember Billy only has his very front teeth, or his nippers.   Poor old fella, although he is doing quite well all things considered.  Then it was finally time to work on the firewood.  Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning we got about 3 and a half cords of wood brought to the house and stacked.

And we got a mess of kindling cut too.

Plus we stacked a bunch across from the house so that if she should run out of what we got on the carport she won't have to go too far to get more. After we got all done with the firewood we were asked by the rancher if we would help "herd" the cattle from my mom's place to his place about a mile up the road!  The theme song from "Rawhide" kept reverberating through my head.  It was fun and we got lucky and only encountered 3 cars along the way.  Luckily all the homes along they way closed their gates so that the cows stayed on the road for the most part.  I always wondered why everyone had a big gate...now I know. On our way home Monday morning we stopped at our friend's place in Lewiston and were treated to breakfast.  We did get into rain on the drive home but all in all we got very lucky with the weather while we were there. 

Wednesday I had to go into Portland for my annual mammogram.  After they do the initial pics they always take you back to the dressing room and tell you to wait until they decide if they are happy with the pics.  Well this time I got called back in and that has to be the worst feeling.  After they took another pic I had to go wait again but was then told I could get dressed and go home.  Whew!  I have since gotten the reports and all is well.

Made one more thank you card that I needed yesterday. This was cased from a card at Split Coast Stampers.  I used all SU papers and stamps again:

Now if I can just get my Buddy Pages done today!!  And getting them in the mail would be even better!

Will be getting ready to head to Idaho tomorrow.  Larry is taking a couple hours off work and I will pick him up at the hatchery.  This will get us in to my mom's around 8pm or so.  Wish I could say I was happy to be going...but I'm not.

Cards to share.

Had a fun few days with some friends that were visiting.  They were spending the night at a nearby resort but I had them over for lunch on Monday and then breakfast yesterday morning.  Shortly after they left for the trip home I, and Sage, headed for the airport to pick up Larry.  His flight was almost 2 hours late and I had a very unhappy dog on my hands.  We waited at the cell phone waiting area at the airport and she hung her head out the windows and cried.  She didn't understand "the plane is late" at all.  But she was sure happy to see him when he finally did get in!

I got a few cards made last week and one this morning:

I made this one for my brother in law's birthday.  I love this stamp set, Branch Out. 

First time in a long time that I have used the sewing machine on paper.  Suffice it to say this took about 3 tries!!  All SU stamps and paper used.  More details can be found on the SU blog.

I made this thank you card for a friend using all SU stamps, ink, ribbon and paper.  The "bling" is not SU.  TFL!

The circle card

Okay I will try to explain this technique:

 
First of all you will need the Stampin Up slit punch # 104388.  You can buy this via my 24/7 ordering site.  The link is on the upper left corner of this blog and I would LOVE to have your business!  Make a card to whatever size you wish.  On the front of the card draw a pencil line 3/8" from the edge:

I tore off the brown strip so I could get pics!  Use the slit punch and line it up to the pencil line and make 5 punches.  You should also measure to get exact spacing between the 5 punches.  In order to save time at the class I just winged it so my spacing could be better.  Now on the inside take a 1/2" strip of contrasting cardstock.  For this card we used orange.  Now fold back.  Then we took a 1 and 1/2" strip of brown and adhered it over the the folded back part and made sure it lined up with the back half of the card.  You wouldn't have to add this piece but then you need to erase your pencil mark and glue the folded part down.  HTH.  let me know if you have any other questions or if I can explain it better!!

Can you believe it?

Yesterday morning it snowed!!  And It was really coming down and even sticking. 

Luckily it was still around 40 so the stuff that was sticking didn't hang around very long.  We have also had very high winds here the last few days and it made my drive to Vancouver a bit white knuckled.  It been pouring rain the last 2 days and it looks to be a few more days of the same.  Poor Sage is patiently waiting for me to take her outside and throw the ball for her this AM.  I am waiting for a pause in the rain first.  Larry is in NY and VT this week visiting his family and won't be home until next Tuesday so I have ball throwing duty while he's gone.

Gosh I haven't blogged in a long time.  We had Riley come stay for a few days.  We met the kids about halfway and took Riley on Thursday and then returned her on Sunday.  We had a very good time.   The first day Riley and I visted the library and then got sandwiches to go at Subway and went to the fish hatchery to have lunch with "papa".  Saturday we went to the Portland, Oregon Zoo.  It was a fun but exhausting!  I think it's the 2nd time I have been to that zoo.  After the zoo we dashed to The Container Store to get a few more things for my new Stampin' Up paper storage.  And here it is:

Each color has it's own folder.  In each hanging file I have both 12X12 and 8.5X11 cardstock as well as a folder for that color's scraps.  I got the Elfa cart for my bithday at The Container Store and it is such a nice cart!  I also got the Cropper Hopper hanging file folders for my birthday from Jo's.  These are on the spendy side but luckily Jo's had them on sale.

 

It will fit nicely in this cubby hole!

I'm so happy with how this turned out and I can see very quickly what color cardstock I want.  I am also going to put what DSP I have on the cart but I still need to make labels for it.

I have lots more to blog about but I have a Dr. appt. In Vancouver this AM.

Going back.

Well I have decided to return the Gypsy.  I had to mess around a few more hours today getting it on to my Cricut.  Had to download the free trial version of DS to update my Cricut.  Supposedly you weren't suppose to have to do that, but instead update from the Gypsy itself.  Well you know my luck.  So got that all done and then the battery was low so I had to charge it.  About an hour into the charging I thought I'd go ahead and play with it a bit. I would turn it on only to have a red light blink at me and then shut the Gypsy down.  Then I'm wondering if the only way we can use this is with just the battery?  I posted at the Cricut MB and had a few responses that yes you can use it while it's charging or on the AC adapter.  I also called PC to ask the same thing and she said yes you can still use it while it's charging.  After having this red light/shutting down thing happen a few more times the blue light came on and stayed on so "finally" I got to play with it......only to discover I really don't like it.  The screen is so small I have had to grab a magnifying glass a few times.  Also the stylus is very skinny and my hand was cramping (yes, I'm still getting charley horses) while trying to hang onto it.  It's all touch screen with this stylus.  So after trying hard to make myself like it I decided this is just plain silly and boxed it back up.  Too much money to not be in love with it.  You win some... you lose some.
